Winter solace is the ultimate Vipassana in life.
The ground is covered in a blanket of water crystals, sometimes several feet thick. So thick in fact, that many small creatures live beneath the white layers. Yet, the air is still. The pace is slowed. Sleep is all around you.
The trees stand stoic and strong. The cabin may fall. Storms have their way with life.

do you seek out stillness?

Frozen time along the trails of Algonquin Highlands, Ontario
A perfect place to discover stillness is in the wilderness of Wolf Den Nature Retreat, in Algonquin, Ontario. Set in the heart of the thick forests, with stunning views of frozen lakes in the winter, snowshoeing trails, groomed cross country ski tracks and waterfalls in every direction, Wolf Den is a must visit. And, their Cabins are standing strong. Not like the one I found north of Burks Falls!
North of Huntsville – the winter solace magic begins
As you drive north along HWY 11 in the middle of winter, the peace and quiet is unmistakable. Solace is all around you.
Beyond the hustle of winter getaway tourism in and around Huntsville, is the wilderness of Ontario, spread out far and wide.
The snow blankets everything. On stormy days, the winds are inescapable. But after the storm, the quiet rest of nature surrounds you.
On calm days, the silence is soothing to the soul and the weary, tired city mind.
